Military station named after CDS General Bipin Rawat in Arunachal

General Bipin Rawat, India’s first Chief of Defense Staff, commanded his battalion 5/11 Gorkha Rifles as a Colonel in Kibithu from 1999–2000 and made significant contributions to strengthening the security architecture of the area. His foresight played a vital role in implementing infrastructural development and social development in the area, which greatly benefited the local population. Late CDS General Bipin Rawat was honored for his excellent services on 10 September 2022. A military station and road in Kibithu, Arunachal Pradesh were named after him.

Late General Bipin Rawat, the first Chief of Defense Staff of the Indian Army, was given the honor on 10 September 2022. A military station and road in Kibithu, Arunachal Pradesh were named after him. Kibithu is a small village situated on the banks of Lohit Valley in the eastern part of India. Kibithu, a circle under Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh, is also an important military camp of the Indian Army guarding the Line of Actual Control.

CDS General Bipin Rawat died untimely on 8 December 2021. To honor his selfless service, a felicitation ceremony was organized at Kibithu on 10 September 2022 on the orders of the state government. In this, Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brigadier BD Mishra, Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Eastern Army Commander Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita named the 22 km long road after General Bipin Rawat in a ceremony. This road connects Walong to Kibithu. Apart from General Rawat’s daughters Kritika and Tarini, many senior officers also participated in this program.

At the same time, the name of the Kibithu military camp was changed to General Bipin Rawat Military Garrison. In which a grand gate built in local traditional architectural style has been built which was inaugurated by Governor Brigadier BD Mishra. The 22 km road from Walong to Kibithu was dedicated as General Bipin Rawat Marg by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu. A majestic life-size portrait of General Bipin Rawat was also unveiled on the occasion.

It is noteworthy that General Bipin Rawat died untimely on 8 December 2021, which caused irreparable loss to the country. The citizens of Kibithu and Walong participated enthusiastically in this ceremony. The dedication ceremony has further strengthened civil-military relations and is a true tribute to India’s first Chief of Defense Staff.
